So I work in the deli of a large supermarket chain, and I had a customer ask me today “so is your chicken halal?” I honestly didn’t know so offered to go check, to which the customer laughed and replied “oh no I was just curious because a lady told me it was just before.” Being very puzzled about this I asked who had told them, as I was the only female staff member around. The customer told me that a woman - another customer- had come up to them and explained to them that buying halal food, specifically the Steggles brand chicken which we stock, funds terrorism, specifically the group ISIS/ISIL. She had then told them to boycott the supermarket I work at, and had given them these stickers to place on any product they see labelled as Halal.
Horrified, I called over the duty manager and told him to which he went and checked the halal section and meat sections where these stickers had also been placed. This one had been stuck to the front of the deli counter in front of our chicken products.

I can’t believe that someone would have the mentality to go into a SUPERMARKET and place these stickers around the place, literally preaching islamophobia inside a business to fellow customers. If she’d come up to me and tried to preach it, I would not have been able to hold my tongue I tell you what I would have told her racist asshole to leave the store and don’t come back, with some swear words in between.
It’s disgusting, and I was upset by it my whole shift, however it just reminded me how racist australians can be to be honest.

If you see these stickers anywhere while you’re shopping, please remove them, and tell a staff member because sadly it apparently happens a lot and we know where they’ve probably stuck some more.

this is vandalism and they and they can be arrested for it so inform the manager of the store so they can call the cops
